World Vision

Location: Zambia
To ensure that all operations in World Vision Zambia are working to
realise our “vision for every child, life in all its fullness: our
prayer for every heart, the will to make it so”. In this regard to:-
- Strategically lead, direct, develop, and manage the implementation of
all aspects of World Vision’s (WV) ministry in Zambia as an effective
member of the WV Partnership.
- Ensure that WV Zambia holistic ministry is child focused and is of
the highest standard of quality, accountability, and cost effectiveness
according to the relevant policies, protocols and standards of World
Vision International.
- To represent World Vision to all donors, project partners, other
international World Vision offices, foreign and local government
representatives, churches and other non-governmental organisations.
- Ensure that World Vision Zambia is positioned as a leading NGO with
respect to children and is a key figure in promoting the well-being and
rights of children within the country context. In this regard, ensure
that World Vision is a respected leader and advocate for children
within civil society.
- Represent World Vision Zambia to the communities with which we work
with a particular focus on children being key players in the
transformation of their lives and the lives of their communities.
- Represent World Vision Zambia to the Government of Zambia, major
donor agencies, ministry partners, non-governmental agencies, churches
and media. Build strategic alliances with these stakeholders that
increase the impact of WV Zambia’s ministry on the communities with
whom it is involved.
- Ensure that through these strategic alliances and partnerships WV
Zambia is positioned as the NGO of choice in its chosen strategic
sectors.
- Provide direction and focus for integrating private and public funds
to maximize results and respond to community needs particularly in
relation to children.
- Build a strong Senior Management Team, providing strategic guidance
to monthly meetings and building management capacity, synergy and depth
of leadership within WV Zambia.
- Facilitate the development of effective teams at a Programme and
National level. In so doing, provide an environment where different
teams can share experiences and best practices in a way that enhances
the quality of ministry in WV Zambia.
- Ensure that a productive and effective relationship is maintained with the Area Director.
Strategic Thinking
- Implement WV Zambia’s current integrated strategic plan and ensure
regular intervals of strategic planning (every 3 to 5 years) to keep
the WV Zambia’s programme focused and tailored to achieve impact in a
rapidly changing country and global context.
- Ensure that the World Vision, Vision Statement, Mission Statement,
Core Values and key Partnership Standards and Practices are the core
foundation of the WV Zambia’s strategies and work.
- Develop and implement the annual business plan and budget to ensure
that they are in accordance with World Vision strategies and standards.
- Seek additional funding sources for WV Zambia with a goal of
balancing these sources and proportions of funding from these sources.
This in order to ensure a sustainable funding base for WV Zambia
programmes.
- Motivate programme officers and proposal writers to provide sectoral
complementarily with existing activities and strategically diversify WV
Zambia’s funding profile.
- Champion the development of WV Zambia’s marketing strategy in line
with the overall country strategy to begin to build relationships with
the private sector to enable WV Zambia to access funds from this source.
- Champion the professional and personal development of all staff to
ensure that the Vision and Mission of World Vision is implemented.
- Ensure the active recruitment of national staff with upper level
university education and senior management potential. Ensure the
continued implementation of WV Zambia’s capacity building program to
equip staff to assume increasing levels of responsibility for
management and leadership of the WV Zambia programme.
- Ensuring that there are appropriate accountability and performance
management standards to encourage individual growth and increased team
effectiveness.
- Ensure that the entity functions in a complementary, cohesive manner
where the principles of interdependence and twin citizenship guide the
contribution made to the Partnership and the use of resources drawn
from the Partnership.
Attitude
- Evident vision and passion for Zambia, with a good understanding of the culture, history and social context of the country.
- Is able to work within a diverse staffing culture and is committed to creating relationships between diverse groups.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethos, Vision Statement, Core Values and Mission Statement of World Vision International.
Implementation
- Provide leadership in the area of Emergency Response and Disaster Mitigation (ERDM). This would include:
- Promoting girls’ and boys’ survival, protection, development, spiritual nurture and participation in ERDM programming.
- Developing capacity at senior levels for the leadership and management of ERDM.
- Championing the development of ERDM strategies and capabilities in WV Zambia.
Provide leadership to World Vision’s Area Development Programmes (ADP’s). This would include:
- Leading innovations and ensure alignment across the dimensions of child sponsorship.
- Provide leadership to the decentralization process of the key support
services of Finance, Human Resources, Administration, Information
Technology to project sites.
- Ensure quality program management in all areas of operation, ensuring
team performance, child focus, and the integration of humanitarian
activities into ADPs where appropriate and feasible.
- Ensure a sufficient and timely flow of management and operation
information and reports to the various stakeholders in the World Vision
Ministry according to established reporting standards.
- Review and approve all project proposals, reports, integrated audits
evaluations and assessments, in a timely manner, taking relevant action
to ensure impact and accountability standards are met.
- Ensure that WV Zambia is continuously improving the quality of its
programme while growing its coverage over time. In so doing, visit the
provinces and field projects frequently to encourage, advise, build
relationships, evaluate and inspect World Vision managed projects.
- Ensure that the hiring, orientation, training, counsel, appraisal,
evaluation, and where necessary, dismissal of senior members of staff
are in accordance with local law and World Vision policy.
- Exercise good stewardship over all resources by ensuring the
maintenance of financial control procedures and records, and
accountability standards required by government donors and World Vision
International.
- Ensure that all Regional and Partnership policies are implemented and
adhered to. To this effect the incumbent should participate actively in
the Africa Forum and Sub-Regional Senior Leadership Team meetings.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of information architecture
that supports the clear an effective communication of information and
sharing of strategic ideas.
REQUIRED:
- At least 5-10 years of international senior management experience and
substantial knowledge of both the relief and development disciplines is
required.
- Significant leadership and management experience in handling complex
humanitarian emergencies and country/national multi-sectorial projects
is required.
- Proven knowledge of and experience with the international donor
community, and the ability to effectively lead public and private
resource acquisition efforts.

- Demonstrated leadership gifts that inspire, motivate and unite staff in the pursuit of organization objectives.
- Possesses strategic and flexible in thinking process.
- Has the ability to facilitate discussions, integrate the ideas of others and move towards positive change.
Proven interpersonal and team leadership skills, with the ability to
build and maintain relationships with staff, partners and leaders at
all levels.
- Has a good understanding of change management and has experience of leading an organizational change process.
- Has the ability to lead a geographically dispersed team.
- Is able to develop and maintain effective organizational systems that comply with WV policies, procedures and standards .
- Has strong relationship building skills and ability to resolve
management conflicts and move quickly towards appropriate decisions.
- Has the ability to delegate while maintaining accountability.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English.
- Is proficient in negotiation and administration and able to handle multiple demands from many stakeholders.
- Is able to handle ambiguity well, with cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Is able to design and develop appropriate reports, proposals, correspondence and media interest stories.
- Is able to develop and maintain close working relationships throughout the WV Partnership.
- Knowledge of computer systems and current office software mandatory.
